How to convert a Google MyMap layer to an ArcMap readable format

Google MyMaps provides an easy way to create data.  It also stores the data layer in your Google account, accessible through the “My Maps” panel.  You can easily migrate a My Map to ArcMap by following these steps.

  1. Open the My Maps panel in Google Maps, and choose the map you want to export
  2. Click on the KML link, and download it to your local drive:
  3. Open ArcMap
  4. Open ArcToolbox, and navigate to the “KML to layer” and double click on it
  5. Follow the instructions in the pop up wizard
